Designed for children 2-4, this is an oral language development program meant to instill bonds between parent and child, as well as build language capacity in the child. Since the focus is on oral language, and not reading or writing, this program also encourages the development of:
*Listening Skills
* Memory
*Attention Spans
Parents are encouraged to memorize the songs and rhymes and use them during the routines and daily interactions with their child. Handouts of the rhymes will be given out at the end of the program.
There will be rhymes with different focuses. Some are for dexterity practice (Itsy-Bitsy Spider and other finger rhymes), others focus on sounds, others are meant to help you in your daily routines (Twinkle, Twinkle) and others are designed to get kids practicing gross motor skills (I’m a little teapot or Head and Shoulders). The rhymes will be repeated several times to help you and your child memorize them, and we will add new ones each week.
Stories are another important part of literacy. Originally, humans handed down lessons and family history using stories; now we focus more on books, but that doesn’t mean you can’t practice your storytelling with your kids! We will use books (and occasionally crafts) to help you build your storytelling skills. This will build up your parenting skills as you learn to communication with your child and how to use stories to build trust, deepen your bond and create fun new routines in life.
